The 552 Bus

In 2008 the Bus Network Review removed the bus from Prince and Bellevue Streets in Oatlands and North Parramatta. Local people lobbied hard to get the bus back. The bus was returned to Prince St on a trial basis but was never restored to Bellevue St. Local people are still working to get the bus back into Bellevue St and confirmed as a permanent service so that they can all get into Parramatta. This video tells that story.

Oatlands meeting 19/10/09

People from Oatlands / North Parramatta held a meeting in Belarousa in Prince St Oatlands on 19-10-09 to discuss the issues around local bus service provision. Twenty two people attended and below are the decisions that the meeting made.

1) We need to confirm that the 552 will be maintained. We need to write a letter to get this information.

2) Priority 1 for further activity:
The 552 should be extended to take in the Bellevue St Loop. Signatures were taken to support a letter to be sent advocating for that.

3)Priority 2
Extend the times of the 552 all day and weekends.

4) Priority 3
The footpaths and bus stops, including the shelters, need to be upgraded for people accessing the 548 bus on Pennant Hills Rd. Pennant Hills Rd needs a crossing near the bus stop because it is not safe to cross as it is.

5) The meeting accepted 5 people to be representatives of the Oatlands/Nth Parramatta area to attend the Western Sydney Public Transport Users (WSPTU) meetings and report back about local activities:
Barbera Jones, Arie Holla, Violet Griffin, Phyllis Cleland, Nancy Perry

6) Discussion of “demand responsive transport” including the use of maxi-taxis, hire cars and charter transport to fill the gap between the route buses and community transport. The meeting decided that this was not seen as a priority and may undermine efforts to get a bus service. It was decided to concentrate on getting the bus services improved.

7) Wheelchairs on buses. Tom discussed the problem of facing forwards on the buses.
